Protests and Walkouts were an Essential way for Chicano's to fight for equality.
A real instrumental way for Chicano's to fight for equality was in protest and walkouts. This mainly happened in the southwest United States. Young Chicano's had many examples to fight for to show that they are lacking equality. The Vietnam War was one of the issues. More Chicano's were dying than white American troops and at a more rapid pace. The war also affected their education funding and poverty program funds for the Chicano communities.
Also, Young Chicano children were fighting for the right to be in the same school as white children and for the schools to recognize their Mexican heritage. This led to many fights between Chicano parents and white American parents. The Chicanos were also fighting against racial discrimination and police brutality.
Finally, they were just trying to get the word out that they wanted to have their culture recognized. They wanted an opportunity to achieve their full potential and live in an equal society with other Americans.
